SANTA MARIA GORETTI

Santa Maria Goretti foi uma virgem, martir, com muitos milagres após a morte. Ela nasceu em 16 de outubro de 1890 na cidade de Corinaldo, Itália , filha de um fazendeiro, Luiggi Goretti que mudou-se com a família para Ferriere di Conca, perto de Anzio.
No dia 16 de julho de 1902 Maria estava sentada no degrau de sua casa remendando uma camisa, quando Alexandre Serenelli, filho do sócio de seu pai arrasou Maria para dentro e enquanto ele gritava e se debatia, ele rasgava as suas roupas tentava asfixia-la, apertando o seu pescoço. Ela debateu-se e ele a ameaçou com uma faca, e ela continuou a gritar que preferia morrer a perdeu sua virgindade, então ele a esfaqueou repetidamente nas costas e depois correu. Ela foi levada para o hospital mas estava claro que ela não iria sobreviver. Nas sua ultimas horas de vida ela perdoou o seu assassino. Ela morreu no mesmo dia do ataque. Alexandre foi sentenciado a 38 anos de cadeia. Uma noite ele experimentou uma visão de Maria Goretti apanhando flores e oferendo-as a ele e dai em diante ele experimentou uma mudança de personalidade e do modo de ver vida e pediu repetidamente o perdão a mãe de Goretti. No natal de 1937 Alexandre e a mãe de Maria Goretti, receberam a comunhão um ao lado do outro, atendendo, segundo a tradição, a visões que ambos tiveram, de que Santa Maria Goretti havia feito um pedido a eles em aparições separadas. Ele tem sido citado como um exemplo pelos advogados da abolição da pena de morte. 
Em 1947, Santa Maria Goretti foi beatificada pelo Papa Pio XII, que apareceu no “Balcão de São Pedro” com a mãe de Maria, três das suas irmãs e irmãos. Em 1950 ela foi canonizada pela sua pureza e uma grande multidão compareceu a cerimonia. Alexandre estava ainda vivo e compareceu a cerimonia. Na época de sua canonização já haviam sido verificados e certificados cerca de 40 milagres resultados de sua intercessão.

Ela é padroeira das adolescentes, da castidade e das “Filhas de Maria.”

SAINT MARIA GORETTI

Saint Maria Goretti was a virgin, a martyr, with many miracles after her death. She was born on October 16, 1890 in the city of Corinaldo, Italy, the daughter of a farmer, Luiggi Goretti, who moved with his family to Ferriere di Conca, near Anzio. On July 16, 1902, Maria was sitting on the step of her house mending a shirt when Alexandre Serenelli, the son of her father’s partner, dragged Maria inside and, while he screamed and struggled, he tore her clothes and tried to suffocate her by squeezing her neck. She struggled and he threatened her with a knife, and she continued to scream that she would rather die than lose her virginity, so he stabbed her repeatedly in the back and then ran. She was taken to the hospital but it was clear that she would not survive. In her last hours of life she forgave her killer. She died the same day as the attack. Alexandre was sentenced to 38 years in prison. One night he experienced a vision of Maria Goretti picking flowers and offering them to him and from then on he experienced a change in personality and outlook on life and repeatedly asked Goretti’s mother for forgiveness. On Christmas Day 1937 Alexandre and Maria Goretti’s mother received communion side by side, in accordance with tradition, with visions they had both had of Saint Maria Goretti making a request to them in separate apparitions. He has been cited as an example by advocates of the abolition of the death penalty. In 1947, Saint Maria Goretti was beatified by Pope Pius XII, who appeared on the “Balcony of St. Peter” with Mary’s mother, three of her sisters and brothers. In 1950 she was canonized for her purity and a large crowd attended the ceremony. Alexander was still alive and attended the ceremony. At the time of her canonization, about 40 miracles had already been verified and certified as the result of her intercession.

She is the patron saint of adolescent girls, chastity and the “Daughters of Mary.”
