O papa Leão XIV exortou os jovens a se perguntar corajosamente sobre o plano de Deus para suas vidas, seja o sacerdócio, a vida religiosa ou o casamento e a família. “Se vocês sentem que o Senhor os está chamando, não tenham medo”, exortou o papa.

Leão XIV expressou isso numa mensagem em vídeo aos participantes das Conferências SEEK26, evento que reúne milhares de fiéis nos EUA para encontrar Cristo por meio da oração, da adoração, dos sacramentos e de palestrantes inspiradores.

À luz do exemplo dos primeiros discípulos, que “não quiseram se contentar com a rotina normal da vida” e estavam “abertos a Deus e ansiavam por um sentido”, o papa falou aos jovens presentes no evento — organizado pela FOCUS (Associação de Estudantes Universitários Católicos) — para lhes dizer que “hoje, Jesus faz essa mesma pergunta” a cada um deles.

“Queridos jovens, o que vocês estão buscando?”, disse ele. “Por que estão aqui nesta conferência? Talvez seus corações também estejam inquietos, buscando significado, realização e direção em suas vidas. A resposta se encontra numa só Pessoa. O Senhor Jesus é o Único que nos traz verdadeira paz e alegria e satisfaz nossos desejos mais profundos”.

Falando sobre como santo André foi em busca de seu irmão Simão para anunciar que havia encontrado o Messias, o papa disse que “o zelo missionário nasce de um encontro com Cristo”, pois “desejamos compartilhar com os outros o que recebemos para que eles também possam conhecer a plenitude do amor e da verdade que só se encontram nEle”.

Assim, ele disse ter esperança de que os jovens participantes desse encontro se sintam tocados “por esse mesmo zelo missionário” e, ao partir, dividam com os que os rodeiam “a alegria que receberam de um encontro genuíno com o Senhor”.

• “Não tenham medo”

O papa Leão XIV também os exortou a não ter medo de perguntar ao Senhor “para o que Ele os está chamando“. Ele disse que alguns podem ser chamados ao sacerdócio, outros à vida religiosa, ou mesmo ao matrimônio e à vida familiar.

“Se você sentir o chamado do Senhor, não tenha medo”, disse ele. “Mais uma vez, quero enfatizar que só Ele conhece os desejos mais profundos, talvez até ocultos, do seu coração, e o caminho que te levará à verdadeira realização. Deixe que Ele o guie e o conduza!”

Ao fim de sua mensagem, o papa pediu a Nossa Senhora que conduza os fiéis “a Jesus Cristo” para que “possamos verdadeiramente conhecê-Lo, conhecer Seu amor por nós e o maravilhoso plano que Ele tem para cada uma de nossas vidas”.

“Assim”, disse ele, “nossos corações encontrarão verdadeiramente repouso Naquele que buscamos”.

Pope Leo XIV exhorted young people to courageously ask themselves about God’s plan for their lives, whether it be the priesthood, religious life, or marriage and family. “If you feel the Lord is calling you, do not be afraid,” the Pope urged.

Leo XIV expressed this in a video message to the participants of the SEEK26 Conferences, an event that gathers thousands of the faithful in the U.S. to encounter Christ through prayer, adoration, the sacraments, and inspiring speakers.

In light of the example of the first disciples, who “did not want to settle for the normal routine of life” and were “open to God and yearned for meaning,” the Pope spoke to the young people present at the event—organized by FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students)—to tell them that “today, Jesus asks this same question” to each of them.

What are you looking for?

“Dear young people, what are you looking for?” he said. “Why are you here at this conference? Perhaps your hearts are also restless, seeking meaning, fulfillment, and direction in your lives. The answer is found in one Person. The Lord Jesus is the Only One who brings us true peace and joy and satisfies our deepest desires.”

Thus, Pope Leo XIV exhorted them to seize the opportunity to spend time with the Lord and deepen their relationship with Him: “Be open to what the Lord has prepared for you!”

Speaking about how Saint Andrew went in search of his brother Simon to announce that he had found the Messiah, the Pope said that “missionary zeal is born from an encounter with Christ,” because “we desire to share with others what we have received so that they too may know the fullness of love and truth that are found only in Him.”

He expressed his hope that the young participants of this gathering would be touched “by this same missionary zeal” and, upon leaving, would share with those around them “the joy they received from a genuine encounter with the Lord.”

“Do not be afraid”

Pope Leo XIV also urged them not to be afraid to ask the Lord “what He is calling them to.” He noted that some may be called to the priesthood, others to religious life, or even to marriage and family life.

“If you feel the Lord’s call, do not be afraid,” he said. “Once again, I want to emphasize that He alone knows the deepest, perhaps even hidden, desires of your heart, and the path that will lead you to true fulfillment. Let Him guide you and lead you!”

At the end of his message, the Pope asked Our Lady to lead the faithful “to Jesus Christ” so that “we may truly know Him, know His love for us, and the wonderful plan He has for each of our lives.”

“In this way,” he said, “our hearts will truly find rest in the One we seek.”
