FESTA DO NASCIMENTO DE MARIA
A Natividade de Nossa Senhora é celebrada pelos cristãos do Oriente desde o início do cristianismo. Já no Ocidente, ela passou a constar do calendário litúrgico a partir do século VII. Neste ano, será celebrada no dia 08 de setembro.
Celebrar a natividade de Maria é, em um sentido bastante humano, celebrar a festa de seu aniversário. E como gostamos de celebrar o aniversário daqueles que nos são queridos!… Maria nasceu de uma forma humana como cada um de nós: fruto do amor entre um homem e uma mulher, viveu em família e como toda jovem de seu tempo, um dia sonhou em casar-se e constituir sua própria família.
Uma vida normal, que talvez seguisse anônima se não fosse a sua aceitação total à vontade de Seu Senhor. Maria, escolhida por Deus para ser mãe de seu Filho que encarnaria para a salvação da humanidade, recebe esta escolha, não sem antes questionar – o questionamento próprio da natureza humana – mas profundamente aberta ao caminho que o Pai passava a lhe mostrar.
Por isso tudo, celebrar a natividade de Nossa Senhora é celebrar um marco fundamental da história da salvação. Peça fundamental nessa história, Maria é a intercessão que ligará a Trindade à humanidade. Através de seu corpo, por Deus preparado livre do pecado, Jesus vem ao mundo e nele realiza seu mistério salvífico.
Que a Festa da Natividade nos faça relembrar essa história tão especial, com os olhos agradecidos diante daquela que soube dizer sim e, através disso, tornar-se mãe não somente de Jesus, mas de toda a humanidade.
Uma oração pelo nascimento de Maria:
“Abri, ó Deus, para os vossos servos e servas os tesouros da vossa graça; e assim como a maternidade de Maria foi a aurora da salvação, a festa de seu nascimento aumente em nós a vossa paz. Por nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, na unidade do Espírito Santo. Amém”.

FEAST OF THE BIRTH OF MARY
The Nativity of Our Lady has been celebrated by Eastern Christians since the beginning of Christianity. In the West, it was added to the liturgical calendar starting in the 7th century. This year, it will be celebrated on September 8th.
To celebrate the nativity of Mary is, in a very human sense, to celebrate her birthday. And how we love to celebrate the birthdays of those we hold dear!… Mary was born in a human way just like each one of us: the fruit of love between a man and a woman, she lived in a family and, like every young woman of her time, one day dreamed of getting married and starting her own family.
A normal life, which perhaps would have remained anonymous were it not for her complete acceptance of the will of her Lord. Mary, chosen by God to be the mother of His Son who would become incarnate for the salvation of humanity, receives this choice, not without first questioning it – a questioning proper to human nature – but deeply open to the path the Father was showing her.
For all these reasons, celebrating the nativity of Our Lady is celebrating a fundamental milestone in the history of salvation. A fundamental piece in this history, Mary is the intercession that will link the Trinity to humanity. Through her body, prepared by God free from sin, Jesus comes into the world and accomplishes His saving mystery.
May the Feast of the Nativity make us remember this very special story, with grateful eyes before the one who knew how to say yes and, through that, became mother not only of Jesus, but of all humanity.
A prayer for the birth of Mary:
“Open, O God, for your servants the treasures of your grace; and just as the maternity of Mary was the dawn of salvation, may the feast of her birth increase in us your peace. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen”.
